Dick Buehler said the truck had been approved by the Utah Department of Forestry and Fire Control, and should be delivered about June 1. It will be located at the Castle Valley Institute. Buehler also said the summer fire season will start May 1 rather than April 15 as a result of recent moisture received on the La Sal Mountains. In other business during the regular commission meeting, an easement from the Corbin Well to White Ranch on Spanish Valley Drive was approved for Moab City to lay 14,050 feet of water line. This approval was given at the request of City Councilmen Dixie Barker, Bark-er, Jerry Bonser and Harold Jacobs, and City Recorder Dave Bretzke. Lilly Mae Noorlander was hired to work as Deputy County Recorder at a starting salary of $2.50 per hour, with the provision that this may be adjusted after the results of a recent salary survey come back. At the request of Jim West, Chamber of Commerce cleanup campaign cam-paign co-chairman, the county road crew will work on Saturday, April 16 using county equipment to assist in the cleanup, at regular pay. Dahl Zohner, U.S. Forest Service, reported there has been no money allotted in his budget this year for seal coating the La Sal Mountain loop road. Commissioners agreed to write to the Forest Supervisor in Price to make an early application for funds in 1978. Don Murphy, representing Agra Steel Buildings, gave a quote of $16,322 for a 35 by 240 foot building with no floor or foundation, and not erected, for use as a storage building for county road equipment. Since a budget hearing would be required to open the budget for this item, no further action was taken. Wes Nelson and John Rowe were informed by the commission that the county cannot accept any roads for maintenance until they are brought up to county road specifications. Betty Dalton, Bob Greenberg and Adrien Taylor, Grand County members of the district Human-Services Advisory Council, answered questions about the activities of the council and asked if there were any goals or programs the commission wished implemented. There were no special requests except the suggestions that any programs started in the county not bind the county to future years, and that programs net tend to encourage dependency. Concluding the day, the commission asked the county clerk to present vehicle inspection reports from the county road department to them at the first meeting of each month, to monitor inspections being made. |
