Show Drilling Activity Continues Upward Climb A review of the Petroleum Information Corporation oil and gas drilling report of the Rocky Mountain states, indicates indic-ates Utah oil and gas activity has substantially increased . during the month, notes Carlton Stowe, minerals specialist, spec-ialist, Utah Geological & Mineral Survey. A statistical analysis of the Hughes Tool Co. 's rig study shows 24 rotary drill rigs working, compared to last month's 12 operating in Utah. Of the 24 rigs active, 10 are drilling wildcat (exploratory) (explora-tory) wells scattered around the state. Mr. Stowe notes that sixty ' wildcat wells are carried in the PI drilling report for Utah which are either drilling, testing, waiting on equipment for completion work, or as scheduled locations sleeted for drill work. Development dril'ng and work currently beig done within oil and gas fields in Utah is most heay in the Pineview field rea near Coalville, in the Gtater Aneth vicinity south of Monticello, and in the Cisco rea of Grand County. The accompnying map shows the apfoximate locations loca-tions of the 60,ildcat wells in Utah. Most iiteresting of the test wells are wo being drilled in Rich Conty where very little prevjus drilling has been done.Last week American Ameri-can Quas? Petroleum Company Com-pany anncinced it planned to drill a pojected 12,500 foot well justsouthwest of Wood ruff. The company is also drilling a planned 11,000 foot well near Randolph and is currently at work on six wells in the Pineview field. Drilling activity in Duchesne County is presently centered some 10 to IS miles southwest of the town of Duchesne. In Uintah County, work is being done 24 miles south of Vernal in the Chapita Wells-Natural Buttes vicinity. In central Utah, wildcat drilling is scheduled in southeastern south-eastern Juab County, Sanpete, Emery and Sevier counties. Currently active is a projected 20,000 foot well being drilled by Hanson Oil Company in the Moroni area. An 18,000 foot test well is scheduled northwest north-west of the town of Manti. Southeastern Utah's Grand and San Juan counties have 22 of the 60 wildcat wells listed. Exploratory drilling is centered center-ed in the Cisco Dome, Agate and Gravel Pile areas south of the Book Cliffs region, and in the LaSal Junction, Elk Ridge, Comb Ridge and Cedar Mesa vicinity southwest of Blanding. |
