YOSHIKO IKAWA i Dr. Paul Mayberry Family j Hosting Exchange Student j Rotary exchange Student, Yoshiko Ikawa, from Akita, Japan arrived in Moab, Monday August 25th. Her first Host-family for the first three months, are Dr. and Mrs. Paul Mayberry. Yoshiko is attending Grand County High School as a senior, her English is very fluent, and she is enjoying attending school here. She just turned 18 years old, on Sept. 6th. Her birthday was celebrated celebra-ted with a party, cake, and all the trimmings at the Mayberry residence. The Mayberry family were ( very impressed with a Cere- ( monial Tea, served by Yosh- i iko. The Ceremonial Tea is . very impressive and a mark of ' achievement. She had to learn I by going to a special school. It is very elaborate. Yoshiko i brought the special dishes, and special tea, and dressed in full ceremonial dress during ' the serving. I Akita, Japan is located in , the northern portion of the country. Yoshiko's father, operates a restaurant there. She has one college age brother at home. Her host-family have experienced exper-ienced some Japanese food, cooked by Yoshiko. Mrs. Mayberry states, it was delicious, and that Yoshiko is very adept, at this type of cooking. They were very impressed with the beautiful gifts, , Yoshiko had presented them with, upon her arrival. Yoshiko enjoys, playing Volley-Ball, and ice-skating. She also does Origami, the art or process of Japanese paper folding. The Mayberry family are enjoying having her with them very much. |
