Show Moab City Approves Fiscal Year Budget Moab City Council Tuesday night approved an operating budget for the coming fiscal year which calls for the spending of some $281,939, plus a $70,000 figure earmarked ear-marked for curb, gutter and street construction. The approved figure was some $7,000 higher than the proposed budget outlined prior to the hearing and for mal budget meeting held this week, with slight adjustments ad-justments being made at the meeting. Involved in changes made Tuesday were increases in the police department budget bud-get to provide for a new radio, ra-dio, more leeway in the salaries sal-aries category, and for an expanded benefits program brought about when police of the state went under the statewide retirement program. pro-gram. Another major addition to the budget was in the parks and recreation department. where $2,930 was budgeted for the installation and operation op-eration of a heating unit fo: the Moab Swim Center. Mayor Ma-yor Winford Bunce stated that councilmen felt that there' would be greater utilization util-ization of the pool at night by adults if the water wenv heated. He stated also that the 9 a.m. swimming classes under the summer recreation recrea-tion program found the wa ter too cold for smaner children, and as a result the 11 a.m. classes were overfilled. over-filled. The bulk of revenues to handle next year's budget will come from sales and property tax, along with the gross business license lax, the budget indicates. Estimated Esti-mated revenues from property proper-ty tax total $64,000; from state-administered sales tax, $70 000; and from gross business bus-iness licenses and other licenses, li-censes, $19,000. Other revenues reven-ues are obtained from charges char-ges for services (.water, sewer, se-wer, etc.); for fines, forfeitures forfei-tures and penalties and otn-er otn-er miscellaneous categories. A fairly representative ' group of Moab residents attended at-tended the Moab City budget hearing, Mayor Bunce said. Included in the discussion were comments pertaining to the city's plan to install fluoridation equipment in the Moab City water system during du-ring the coming year. In other action, the Council Coun-cil approved the appointment of Ellis Cook to the Moat Board of Adjustment to replace re-place Edd E. Provonsha, resigned. re-signed. The city also sold an old pickup truck for $75. The Council also authorized authoriz-ed the Mayor to write letters to Governor Calvin Ramp -ton and slate legislators, Sen. Ralph A. Prcece an' Rep. Jesse J. Peacock, urg iug the early consideration of legislation which woulc clarify the voting require, mcnts for bond elections. -1 recent U. S.
