Show Jury Finds Man Guilty Gary Gustas, about 25, of Moab, was convicted on a charge of "Petty Larceny" by a jury in Moab City Court Tuesday morning. Shoplifting charges were filed against Gustas on January Jan-uary 15, by Ralph Miller, proprietor pro-prietor of Miller's Supermarket, Supermar-ket, when he reportedly pocketed pock-eted a jar of jelly without paying for the item at the check stand. Gustus contested the charge on the grounds he did not Intentionally In-tentionally take the merchandise merchan-dise without paying for it. He said he was afraid he would drop the glass jar and break it before he finished shopping. He slipped it in his pocket, and forgot to check it at the . stand, he said. Gustus said he had no record of previous arrests or convictions. After a brief deliberation the jury found the defendant "guilty"; He was fined $75 by City Judge Don Crist, fine payable by January 30, or a default would be declared and the sentence changed to 15 days in Grand County jail. |
