Show Plans Being Made Now For Ski Area Enlargement Over 9,700 ski enthusiasts and sight-seers visited Blue Mountain Ski Area last year, according to figures released this week by the U. S. Forest For-est Service. The winter sports area is located on lands administered administer-ed by the U. S.. Forest Service arid operated by a non-profit organization, the' Blue Maun-tain Maun-tain Ski Club, under special use permit. The present ski area consists con-sists of two ski runs of -approximately lVi miles in length. Ski tow is of the Poma or T-bar type, extending extend-ing up the slope 2,100 feet for a vertical elevation rise of 850 feet. Snow Ranger, John D. Campbell of the U. S. Forest Service, admits the skiing has been above average aver-age this year and most enjoyable en-joyable on the north and south runs. For those interested in skiing Blue Mountain and enjoying the fantastic scenery scen-ery of coniferous forest, Canyonlands. Can-yonlands. and the adjacent LaSal Mountains, cost for non-members for use of the tow is: Children, $1.50 per day: adults, S2.50 per day. Club membership tickets can be purchased for individuals. indi-viduals. S3.00, and family, S7.00. This allows members to purchase childrens tickets at SI. 00 per tow day, and adults, S2.00 per tow day. Future plans for the Blue Mountain ski area include ex-, ex-, tension of the lift for approximately approx-imately 500 feet upslope, expansion ex-pansion of the north and south runs, and the overall addition of a new run and beginners area. These improvements im-provements will increase ski- able area by approximately three times the present capacity. ca-pacity. A new ski lodge is also planned for the area. Building committee, Wy-man Wy-man Redd, Morris Nelson and Larry Bailey have been working wor-king very closely with the U. S. Forest Service in drawing draw-ing up tentative plans for hs new addition. Construction is programmed during the summer sum-mer season of 1968, pending plans approval. Present officers of this nonprofit non-profit volunteer organization are; Marion Miller, president; presi-dent; Grant Bronson, ' vice president; board of directors, Larry Bailey, Johnny Bailey, Nancy Cahoon, and Wyman Redd. |
