Show Jloyal Navy Team Visiting Canyonlands National Park From May 1 to 5, Canyon-lands Canyon-lands is being visited by a five man team from II.M.S. Glamorgan, a Royal Navy destroyer. Tlio Glamorgan and a sister ship are calling at several U. S. porls en route the Far East. The Glam-morgan Glam-morgan is sending an officer and five enlisted men across country in a Land Rover from Washington, D.C. to San Francisco. Fran-cisco. They will take twenty-four twenty-four days to complete the trip, visiting and camping in National Nat-ional and State Parks along the way. Except for Canyon-iinds, Canyon-iinds, they will be in each park for one day at the most. The team, led by Lt. Cdr Len H. Saunders, plans to enter en-ter some of its members in the Duke of Edinburgh's award aw-ard program. This program is sponsored by Prince Phillip Phil-lip for unusual, adventurous, and physically beneficial use of time in sport. When asked by the Royal Navy to recom-ment recom-ment an area which would provide a real challenge to the team, the National Park Service had no hesitation in naming Canyonlands. The group will arrive on May 1, spend three days in the Park, and depart on May 5. Their travels in the Park will probably be mostly on foot, packing their gear and camping in out-of-the-way locations. lo-cations. The Park staff has worked out several alternate routes, each of them guaranteed guaran-teed to present a challenge to any group. The choices were presented to them on arrival. After leaving Canyonlands, the group visits Glen Canyon, the North Rim of Grand Canyon, Can-yon, Bryce Canyon, Lake Mead, Death Valley, and Yo-semite Yo-semite on their way to San Francisco, where they will rejoin their ship on May 15. |
