Show Grand County Horse Show Held Sat. The ..Grand County Horse Show was staged this -past weekend at the Canyonlands Rodeo Gruonds south of Mo-1 Mo-1 ab. The. event was sponsored by the Moab Red Rock Riders. 187 entries were recorded in the open classes and 263 in the registered classes. Judge for the horse show was Alma A. Heaps of Salt Lake City. Heaps is a qualified qualif-ied Appaloosa and quarter horse judge who conducts a school of horsemanship in Salt Lake City. Local winners from Moab were numerous. Joe D. Taylor won a first place trophy for his working cow horse entry, first in the mares halter foals, and a second in the geldings (66) halter class. " Bud Pilling,- the - president of the Red Rock Riders, won first in the -working cow horse junior class and third in the 1964 foals. Don Bates got c. third in the stallions (65) class and a , fourth in the junior reining. Diana Bates won a third place in showmanship ,and halter for ages 12 and under. Ron Krist won a fifth in the mares foal (67) class and Elaine Halverson netted 6th place for the mares foal (66) class. Quite a number of other local youngsters entered enter-ed and won in the open classes. class-es. - The horse show brought in numerous horse fanciers from out of state with Colorado, Idaho and New Mexico being well represented. The Red Rock Riders of Moab, who sponsored the event, ev-ent, spent two days in the saddle the previous weekend, riding the trails of the Arches near Delicate Arch. According Accord-ing to Wanda West, the secretary secre-tary of the saddle club, the ride was magnificent. |
