TO GIVE THREE SCHOLARSHIPS Three four-year scholarships in the College of Mineral Industries Indus-tries at the University of Utah were announced Saturday by the United States Smelting, Refining and Mining Co. Each is worth $400 per year. The scholarships, to begin with the 1951 fall term at the university, univer-sity, will be similar to scholarships scholar-ships in previous years, said W. C. Page, vice president and general gen-eral manager of western operations opera-tions for the company. The Downey Davidson Muir Jr. scholarship will be for study in mining and geology. The Walter Wal-ter Hazen Eardley scholarship will be for study in nonferrous metallurgy. Both are open to sons of day-wage company employes em-ployes who have worked continuously con-tinuously for five years at operations oper-ations in Utah. The Edward Alexander Hamilton Hamil-ton scholarship is for study either eith-er in mining and geology or in nonferrous metallurgy. It is open op-en to sons of salaried employes whose base pay does not exceed $500 per month. Sons of retired or deceased employes are eligible. elig-ible. Youths to receive the scholarships scholar-ships are selected by the Fellowship Fellow-ship and Scholarship Committee appointed from the College of Mine and Mineral Industries of the university.
