| Show CRESCENT EAGLE VELL GIVES LIVELY SHOW OIL CATCHES ON FIRE on being opened up friday morning after a rest of several months the crescent eagle well on crescent dome near thompsons Thomp sons gave an exciting demonstration that came close to destroying the rig and camp by fire the well shot oil over the top of the mast for five minutes fol lowed by a flow of water A flow of gas and oil then came and caught fire from the derrick stove nearly destroying the rig before the flames could be extinguished the well was opened up friday morning by the crescent eagle leasing company who recently took over the well and acreage of the cres cent eagle company the tools were run jn and at feet a bridge of salt was encountered after drilling through thirty five feet of salt plug the tools were blown up the hole and oil spouted to the top ot mast for five minutes no damage was done by the fire and operations have proceeded during the week H C alien salt lake attorney who has organized the crescent eagle leading company for the purpose of completing the well was at the camp directing operations when the well was opened up friday he is confident that the oil is coming from the stratum at feet which has at numerous times before made impressive showings within twenty or thirty days he ex pacts that the leasing company will have the hole cleaned out and casing set on bottom so that a thorough test can be made the well is now under control and is gassing strong ly according to reports from cres cent the crescent eagle hole was drilled to a depth of feet for the past two years it has been making a small flow of oil on top of salt water and after being shut in the well performs interestingly the crescent eagle well drilled through a couple of thousand feet of salt all of which tested high in pot ash As a result of the potash discovery W M armstrong of los angeles secured a lease on some ad joining acreage and started a deep well with a rotary rig the intention being to core drill the salt forma tion to determine the extent of the botash beds the armstrong well is located about two miles south of the crescent eagle hole and 13 at a depth of about 1400 feet the for mation encountered is much harder than that in the crescent eagle and it has become necessary to resort to diamond drilling to carry the hole down two weeks ago a good show ing of oil was encountered in the armstrong test which as yet has not encountered the salt the crescent eagle well is the pioneer test of the district and on many occasions has given every in di cation of developing into a big oil producer mr alien was secretary and manager of the crescent eagle company and he has now organized ahe leasing company to carry the est to he has d confidence in the future of the dis act for oil production |
