W Roberts of New York which he said solved the i problem very satisfactorily It has to tobe tobe tobe be made for each individual case as perfect fit ds is absolutely essential and Dr Martin says the wearer tor forgets gets it its Ita presence which cannot be said of the ordinary arch Dr Martin has a set of exercises which are an important factor t in the cure They must be practised for a Ii afew afew few months in light c cases es but for more than a year in severe ones The patient begins with only onty three of the exercises gradually adding the others as the muscles grow stronger These are the exercises 1 Patient sitting leg extended and supported just above the ankle Grasp the right foot just above the ankle the left hand Place right handon hand band Con on sole of foot With thumb pointed toward toes grasp foot firmly cir cir- foot slowly as follows extension extension ex ex- ex- ex tension inversion flexion This should be done by attendant withas with withas as much force as can be used without 3 o pain and repeated thirty times time E E Each b I part of ot the movement should be sel sep sepI I by a pause j 2 These same movements done the patient without help x 3 Patient standing toes In and c heels heets out and feet teet about twelve inch Inches Inches' apart Rise on toes and press out slowly Repeat thirty times 1 4 Standing feet parallel and six inches apart Raise the inner side of the feet teet throwing the weight on the the- outer side Repeat thirty Imes 5 Standing with feet parallel weight resting on outer side of the te fet feet t. t Wa Walk k forward and backward thirty steps 1 keeping feet teet parallel parallel and forcing dOYn down ball of feet t l 6 Standing feet foot twelve inches apa apart and parallel knees bending and outward outward outward out out- ward pressing 7 Standing feet six inches apart apar and turned in Rise on toes and w walk walk- Ik forward and backward thirty times crossing feet and keeping toes in 8 Standing firm right lunge forward forward for for- ward neck firm bend right knee until heel is forced from floor keeping weight on the outer side of the foot foot Rep Repeat at ten times and do the same same with r l' l 9 Standing feet parallel six inches apart Sway slowly forward and backward backward back back- back back- ward on heels and and ball of or root foot chest active and chin in 10 Raise heel one inch from floor and walk without bringing heel heet down I as if the heel we were e. e pan painful M.
