Prizes were won by Mrs. L. C. Amsden, Mrs. R. G. Steele and Mrs. George Dahlstrom. Tasty refreshments were served to nine. Mr. and Mrs. Clair Johnson and children were dinner guests Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas L. Strike of Salt Lake City. No. 1 Firemen and auxiliary hold their monthly conjoint din-ner meeting Monday evening. Arrangements of spring flowers centered the table and places were set for 44. Several of the common communicable dis-eases such as chickenpox, meas-les and whooping cough, increa-sed slightly this week as com-pared with the previous week. Eight cases of poliomyelitis have been reported during the current week as compared with one case for the previous week. Of these eight cases, five were reported from Salt Lake City and three from Washington county. From the first of the year to the present time, a total of thirty poliomyelitis cases now have Icon reported to the state depart-ment of health. Last week 263 cases were re- - ported and 454 for the corres- - ponding week last year. CIVIL SERVICE EXAMS Applications are being accept-ed by the Thirteenth U. S. Civil Service Region for Operatoi Equipment (Mountain road con-struction and maintenance) for employment with the U. S. Jur-ist service, Salt Lake City. These positions pay $2845 a year. There is no written test in con-nection with this examination and applicants will be rated on the basis of a review of their ex-perience and training as shown in their application form. Detail-ed information regarding the du-ties and requirements for these positions is contained in the ex-amination announcement. Applications must be on file with the Office of the Thirteenth U. S. Civil Service Region, not later than May 9, 1949.
