Show EAGLES TO DOUBLE MOTHER'S DAY PHONE CALLS Bingham Canyon aerie No. 659 of the Fraternal Order of Eagles is joining with members in 1700 ether American communities to telephone 20 million mothers, double the number contracted last year, to make this Mother's day, May 8, the nation's biggest single event. The official program announces an-nounces that every Eagle will be asked, to make five or more telephone tele-phone calls extending the day's greetings to mothers in their neighborhoods and asking them to tune in on the coast-to-coast radio program of the American Broadcasting Co. at 9:30 a. m. over station KUTA Friday, May I 6, when Ted Malone, Westing-1 house radio roving reporter, will ' devote the entire time to a special spe-cial Mother's day program. The Eagles claim credit for instituting in-stituting the commemorative programs of Mother's day because be-cause a young University of Notre Dame professor, and twice president of the Eagles, Frank E. Hering, made the first demand back in 1904, for setting aside one day a year devoted to mothers. mo-thers. Ted Malone will broadcast that day over 221 radio stations, making ma-king it possible for every mother in the nation to tune in. Last year's Ted Malone program was heard by mothers in their homes, in groups of fifty to six hundred at breakfast-luncheon in several of the larger cities, and according accord-ing to reports from other lodges throughout the nation there were 50,000 mothers listening in Dallas, Dal-las, Tex.; 20,000 in Springfield, 111.; 7,000 in Ogden, and hundreds hund-reds of other cities and towns. Annual Mother's day program sponsored by the Bingham Eagles Eagl-es aerie will be held this year Monday evening, May 9 at BCO hall at 7:30 p.m., reports Bert A. Hocking, chairman. o |
