This platform demanded also the reduction re-duction of tbe term of senators by one-half. It was not till 1900 that the Democratic partv. which jn the eonte.t in 1M had practically abaorbed the Populist party, yielded to tbe same demand de-mand and adopted the following plank at Kansas City: "We favor an amendment amend-ment to the federal eoastitntion providing pro-viding for the election of United Statea senators by a direct vote of the people.
