For purpoaea of organisation the atate waa divided into nine divisions, and of these seven wilt send representatives to the finals. Paucity of population and distance to ba traveled are believed to be responsible for the failure of the other two divisions, which Included only a few authorities at the University of Utah, under the auspices of which the con teat a are carried on, hope for an even better representation neoit year than thla Aa H la. atudente will come here tomorrow to-morrow who are the winners In preliminaries prelim-inaries in which almost every achool of its class In the state took part. They will compete here for medals, a gold medal being awarded to the winner of the first prise In declamation and public addreaa respectively, and a silver medal to thoae adjudged wlnnera of the aecond prise. Interest In these contests haa increased in-creased gradually alace their Inception a few years aero, and the contests of this week should easily be the beet so far held. Large numbers of etudenta are expected ex-pected to he present at those contests from the nearer schools of tha state, particularly par-ticularly thoae of Halt Leake, Utah and Weber counties. The largest attendance will probably be that of Friday night, as the state Interachniaatlc track and field meet will he held Saturday, and the double dou-ble attraction should bring, many enthusiastic enthu-siastic atudenta to the city. For the entertainment of visiting students stu-dents there will ba the track meet, and on Saturday night a dance at Haltalr. Mualc numbers will be rendered at Intervals In-tervals during both tomorrow night's and Friday night s programs. The mualc wlH be under the direction of profeaaor Squla Coop of the University of Utah and will ba by students In that department. depart-ment.
