Show WON $50 AND A SILVER CUP Sophomores at University Defeat the Juniors in Debating De-bating Contest That Was Requested. The debating team representing the sophomore class at the University defeated de-feated the team representing the Junior class yesterday afternoon. The victory carried with it a cash prize of $50 and a handsome silver cup. The question debated was: "Resolved. That the President's Presi-dent's power be limited by the appointment appoint-ment of a ministry directly answerabl to the National Congress." The Juniors took the arflrmativw side of the question and E. A. Morgan was, their first speaker. C.'H. Anderson, who defended the negative, spoke next. Tha i last speaker for the affirmative was Wallace Wal-lace Calder, and the last speaker for tha negative was J. M. Carlson. The Judges were Richard W. Young, Stephen L. Richards, Prof. George M. Marshall, Prof. Milton Bennion and Prof. James L. Gibson. Gib-son. The cash prise was divided among the members of the winning team, while tha cup will be held by the class until tha ' next annual debate. |
