Show PIANO HOVER AS UNDERTAKER Derrick Needed to Remove From House Body of Chi-cago Chi-cago Woman Weighing 520 Pounds. CHICAGO, March 2. The body of a woman Weighing 520 pounds was buried with some difficulty yesterday- It was that of Mrs. William Maurer, 54 years old, wife of Detective William Maurer of the West Chicago avenue police station, sta-tion, who died Wednesday of fatty, degeneration de-generation of the heart. A derrick of the kind used in moving pianos waa necessary to remove the body from the house. A piano mover superintended the undertaking. The derrick was fastened to the roof of the house. The sash and frames of the win' dow had to be removed. A special casket, cas-ket, thirty-seven inches in width and weighing 245 pounds, was necessary. This was bound with iron hooks and required ten men to carry it. The largest larg-est hearse in the city bore the body to Bose HilL For seven years Mrs. Maurer had not left her home because of her inability to pass through the doorway. During most of this time she had been in a seemingly dying condition, having been unable to hreathe well because of her weight. Mrs. Maurer 's condition had been a complete pnzzle to physicians. Dozens of remedies were suggested and tried for reducing her weight, but without with-out avail. The Maurers were married twenty-five years ago and had two children, chil-dren, one' of whom survives. At the time of her msrriage Mrs. Maurer weighed only 145 pounds. |
