Show the money interests, that will redound to the advantage of some more of his Utah holdings. : . . EMMA COPPER STRENGTHENS. Just prior to his departure for New York today, Samuel Newhouse gave out some information touching the taking over of a large block of the Emma Copper Cop-per company by himself, D. C. Jack-ling Jack-ling and C.'W. YCTiitley. It seems that Secretary W. M. Wantfand of the Emma company has been instrumental in getting get-ting Newhotise to consider the merits of the great Alta camp, and upon Want-land Want-land s reepmmendataon Newhouse purchased pur-chased a considerable block of the Columbus Co-lumbus Consolidated stock some time ago. This stock has appreciated in value considerably and the mine itself gives promise of becoming one of the biggest in the State. Newhouse confessed that this good turn on the part of Wantland had much to do with, his considering the proposition proposi-tion made to bim when he and bis associates as-sociates .were invited to participate in the development of the Emma Copper company's properties. The Emma is a wonderful piece of ground. It is the mine that involved two continents in the early '70s by reason of the prominence of some of the shareholders in official life, in both this country and England. This scandal scan-dal was the effect or very extravagant management, with the result that the earnings of the ground were used in a manner that placed the property in the list of "has been's" and thus strengthened strength-ened the claim of the foreign shareholders sharehold-ers that they had been duped. Since that period the mine has only been prospected in a desultory manner, and it was not until a few months ago that Wantland succeeded in harmonizing harmon-izing all interests by forming a new incorporation that took possession of the ground and began operations. Good results -have been obtained at the outset, out-set, and it was on the strength of this showing that the Emma company was successful in inducing such men as New-house, New-house, .Tackling and Whitley to take a large share of the holdings and assist in the development of the ground to greater depths. Not only is the success of the Emma company assured by this move, but Newhouse confessed that he had been considering the merits of the Alta camp for a long time and that he might spring a surprise soon by launching out and taking an active part in the development devel-opment of. other meritorious propositions proposi-tions in those high mountains. This would seem to indicate' that be has his eve on the once famous old camp and that he intended making a camp of Alta such as he had done of Bingham. Newhouse will sail for Paris March 9. While in Europe it is possible that he will havs conferences with some of . . |
