Show M'WIIIRTER TOLD AGAIN THE STORY ; OF $10,000 LOSS After Alexander MeWhirter had con-eluded con-eluded his testimony in the preliminary hearing on . a. charge of .conspiracy against Chief of Police Sheets yesterday yester-day afternoon, 8. B. Thurman, one of Sheets' lawyers, moved to strike out all the testimony. He took the ground that no evidence had been given to connect Sheets with any unlawful act or agreement? agree-ment? Judge Whitaker. before whom the hearing is being held, reserved decision. de-cision. . . On the stand MeWhirter told the old story of the poker game in which he lost more than $10,000. The game was played in - the Antler rooming-house whither he had been inveigled with, his brother, William, bv the stranger, Morris. Mor-ris. When be complained of his loss he was conducted to the police station where he met Chief Sheets and received re-ceived $1000 of the money he had lost. All the detils were related again. William MeWhirter 's testimony was largely a repetition of that of his brother. Thurman objected on the ground that no wrongdoing on the part of Sheets had been shown. MeWhirter said Chief Sheets told Sergeant Hemple that nothing of the affair should be told by the policemen. Their railroad tickets necessitated their departure from the city the next day, the witness said,' and the chief told him he believed he would be unable to secure an extension exten-sion 'of the time limit.
