Wade, the senior of rank in the army and next in rank to Lieut.-Gen. Lieut.-Gen. MacArthur, terminates his active connection with the military establishment establish-ment today by operation of law on account ac-count of age. He will become 64 years of age, the retiring age, on Sunday. His military services cover a period of forty-six years and include participation in the Civil war, the Indian campaigns and the Spanish-American war. The retirement of Gen. Wade will remit re-mit in the promotion of Brig.-Gen. William Wil-liam S. McCaskey. commanding the department de-partment of the Texas, to the grade of Major-General, and the promotion of Col. Charles Morton 'of the Seventh eavalry, which is in the Philippines, to the grado of Brigadier-General. Maj.-' . 3en. Frederick D. Grant, commanding the "department of the East at New York will succeed Gen. Wade in the Command of the Atlantic division. The division command will be abolished on July 1 next and merged into the depart-' roent of the East. Gen. Grant will retain re-tain the command nntil relieved by Gen. Wood, when he will probably be assigned to the command of the department depart-ment of the Lakes at Chicago. |
