Show EAGLES PLAN FOR ANNUAL MOTHER'S DAY PROGRAM Members of Bingham Aerie No. 659 of Fraternal Order of Eagles today joined Eagles in more than 1,500 other American communities communi-ties in a nation wide campaign to make this the greatest Mother's Moth-er's day in history. For many years Mother's day has been celebrated on a large scale by the Eagles, one of whose early leaders originated the peculiarly pe-culiarly American custom of national na-tional observance almost half a century ago. This year's unique Eagle Mother's Mo-ther's day celebration will receive its greatest impetus from a "Calling "Call-ing All Mothers" telephone drive in which every member of the order, will call no less than five mothers in his community. Purpose of these calls will be not only to extend the order's greetings but to invite mothers everywhere to listen in Friday, May 7, when Ted Malone, American Amer-ican Broadcasting company's radio ra-dio poet, broadcasts a special Eagle Mother's day program coast to coast, with a special tribute trib-ute to Gold Star mothers. The program, which will originate orig-inate in the ABC New York City studios, will be carried over the coast to coast network of 206 stations and can be heard anywhere any-where in the United States. The program will be heard locaHy from 9:45 a.m. to 10 a.m. MST, Friday, May 7 over Station KUTA. It was when Frank Hering was an instructor at the University of Notre Dame that he made the first known public plea for a national na-tional Mother's day at an Eagle memorial service February 7, 1904, at Indianapolis, Ind. National Mother's day was established es-tablished as the second Sunday in May by Act of Congress in 1914, and President Woodrow Wilson issued the first Mother's day proclamation for May 10 of that same year. Mrs. Zelda Davis Howard of Salt Lake City will give the Mother's day address at the Eagles' Eagl-es' sponsored program in Bingham Bing-ham Canyon, to be held Monday evening, May 10, at 8 p.m. at BCO hall. Small individual cakes and a small potted flower will 'be given to each mother present. Bert A. Hocking is chairman of the program. The public are cordially cor-dially invited. |
