FLASHES by Jim Abplanalp AMATEUR CIRCUIT TO START SUNDAY, MAY 16 The BDAA amateur baseball-er's baseball-er's will begin preparation soon for their first attempt at rejuvenation reju-venation of the national pastime at Bingham. WTth the six team Bonneville division of the fast stepping Amateur league, due to open their schedule May 16, an initial meet-I meet-I ing and practice session has been called for Sunday, May 2 at 4 p.m. Two of the finest diamond performers per-formers of Utah's baseball, Frank Zaccaria and Les Sumnicht, will be out to handle the destinies of our simon-pure athletes, and under un-der such capable leadership a fine squad is expected to uphold the Bingham baseball tradition. Several local business men have responded to this program, and have agreed to help purchase purch-ase first class uniforms for the entire squad. Those whom have been contacted, willingly agreed to purchase a uniform with their business lettering on back and BDAA across front of shirt. Several Sev-eral more have expressed a desire de-sire to help the move along, and the BDAA will seek to secure their aid. First Practice and Meeting All aspirants for the BDAA Amateur baseball team are asked ask-ed to report with their own shoes, gloves, etc. at the auxiliary ball field (Yankee stadium) Sunday, May 2 at 4 p.m. Workouts and all games will be under direction of Frank Zaccaria and Les Sumnicht. Sum-nicht. Any information needed, please contact these two men. Softball Deadline Nears Six sure entries and a possible seventh are eagerly awaiting the opening gun in the BDAA Softball Soft-ball race, due to start the middle mid-dle of May. Team entry deadline is May 1 so please make arrangements arrange-ments immediately. All softball games will be played on the auxiliary aux-iliary diamond at Copperton. A request has been made for spectators to please park cars at bottom of hill to save the ball field. Lets try and cooperate with the diamond operators and leave our cars below the playing field. Alley Angles George Sluga Captures Gemmell Award George (Strike) Sluga, with 3312 pins for 16 games, copped cop-ped the top prize in the Gemmell Club Round Robin bowling tourney tour-ney just ended, and walked off with a new bowling ball and top cash award. , Herb Babcock, bowling like old Ned himself, jumped into second spot, and garnered a new bowling hag and several leuuce leaves. Herb had a 3292 total and also higlv.series of 861 from scratch. 4 . Next in line, in first five were J. Abplanalp with 3219, Bill Braun with 3206 and Joe Brisk with 3204. Joe Dillier had high game (268). The BDAA Travelers bowling squad wind up their season this week with a once across tourney at the Temple alleys. The local squad put up a great battle in their first year of major league kegling and hope to make even a better showing next season. The bowlers on this team wisn to thank BDAA for their fine support and interest taken in their efforts. The Bingham team that won the league crown at Sugarhouse have entered the champion of champions' tournament to be heia soon. Champions and runners-up of every league will meet in an elimination tourney to decide Utah's top team. |
