This word was received Wednesday Wednes-day by United States Attorney Dan B. Shields In a tsiegram from United Unit-ed States Benator Eibert D. Thomas. A step-eon of Captain Taggart, Mr. Merrill will open the office here about April 1. the telegram stated. It indicated the territory to be covered cov-ered by the local office may be increased. The office has been closed since the deeth of Captain Taggart oa February 11. Mr. Merrill entered the secret service ser-vice in 12 in Ban Francisco after several years as special agent for the Western Pacific Railroad company. com-pany.
