Show House Group Studies Utah Air Base Plans WASHINGTON, May 18 (AP) Plans for immediate expenditure ex-penditure of more than $8,000,000 for an army air base in the vicinity of Ogden, Utah, were laid before the house appropriations appropria-tions committee today by war department officials. Members of the committee declined to disclose details of the plan, but said they involved the complete development of the base, which would be just south of the army arsenal at Ogden. Funds for purchase of 2900 acres of land for the base have been provided by congress. Committee members said General Malin Craig, chief of staff, and Major General H. H. Arnold, chief of the army air corps, had supported immediate appropriation of funds for the project If the committee accepts the war department's recommendations, recommen-dations, they said, funds would be provided in a deficiency ap-. ap-. propriation bill. At previous hearings, war department officials indicated that they regarded development of an air base in the Salt Lake basin of prime importance. |
