Show Trojans, Irish Expected To Enact Thrilling Tilt By STEVE SNIDER United Press Sports Writer CHICAGO, Nov. 2S-Jfotre Dame will have to get off its one-touchdown one-touchdown standard to lick Southern California Saturday. All but one of the 11 struggles in the famed Irish-Trojan series crammed enough scoring thrills for a whole season into 60 playing minutes min-utes and Southern California will invade South Bend, Ind., primed for another big score. While Notre Dame has scored only 57 points this season 21 against Drake and ths rest in one touchdown splurges against Army, Navy, Minnesota. Northwestern, Carnegie Tech and Pittsburgh U. S. C. has piled up 111 while losing three games and tieing two. If the Irrsh expect to squeeze by on a score a game they should have been heartened today by announcement announce-ment that ambling Amby Schindler key man in the Trojan attack-probably attack-probably will not play Saturday. Amby took a severe physical drubbing against Oregon State two weeks ago and so far has failed to come back all the way. A runner of Schindler's ability is vital to the Howard Jones system aad without him U. S. C. will likely be underpowered under-powered offensively. Oliver Day, a 166-pound fullback will start at quarterback in place of Schindler and Grenvills Landsdell, a sophomore, sopho-more, may be his alternate. The Irish were not worried about their defense. Pittsburgh's acknowledged acknowl-edged powerhouse roiled up 21 points in a savage fourth period assault, as-sault, but all the rest of their opponents oppo-nents havs totaled only 22. |
