Jack Howard of Spokane, who last week proved he was willing to exchange resounding blows from start to finish, meets a slugger of considerable local renown in Bill Davis of Fort Douglas, heavyweight champion of the ath corps area. Howard, tall and rangy, outpunched the chunky Jack Romero last week in a free-hitting affair, to gain one of this week's headline bouts. Tosf Thampion Kid Cannon, another Fort Douglas Doug-las scrapper, who recently gained the welterweight championship of the 0th corps area and who is a former Idaho welter champion, will box Max Young, hard-hitting Span-: ish Fork veteran, in the other head-: line event. Cannon has won a large following because of his willingness to mix in i a ''give and take" scrap, and while ; he fights too "wide open" for his own good most of the time, has re-' peatedly proved one of the gamest and most popular fighters in this region. Young has gained a good repute- i tion as a willing slugger, and it is not likely this affair will go the complete eight rounds. Candra in Rematch Another whirlwind battle is ex-j pected in the six-round semiwindup, when Johnny Candea of Garland and Tiger Griffin of Salt Lake City mix it in a rematch. Last week these little fighters tangled in four rounds of the most interesting slugging slug-ging seen since the arena fight programs pro-grams began. Another fight not expected to go the full distance brings together Jay Tolman of Price and Red Lund of Salt Lake City, with four rounds scheduled. Both are well known as free-hitting, speedy scrappers with little regard for defense so long as a chance of landing on the rival fighters presents Itself. Wes Freeman of Boise opposes Herb Norton, Magna husky, in one four-round preliminary, and Max Millan of Trinidad faces Billy Smith . of Salt Lake City In the other.) Millan put up a game scrap In hisi professional ring debut last week, : rocking Sammy Bass of Fort Douglas Doug-las with repeated smashes to the jaw to gain a draw.
