Show S. L. RECORDS SHOW INCREASED BIRTHS Births Increased 5 per cent and deaths decreased 18 per cent during dur-ing the week ended Friday, as compared to a corresponding period pe-riod in 1939, Dr. T. J. Howells, city health commissioner, reported Saturday. There were 84 births last week, as compared to 80 births a year ago. Only 36 deaths were recorded for the week, while 44 were reported re-ported for the same period of 1939. An equal number of men and women wom-en died. During the week 181 cases of contagious and infectious diseases were reported. Increase in measles and whooping cough and decrease in scarlet fever, chlckenpox and mumps were reported. |
