Show BRITISH OFF URUGUAY AWAIT FRENCH SHIP MONTEVIDEO, Uruguay. Jan. 15 UP) British sea and air patrols watched off the Uruguayan coast Wednesday lest the French freighter Mendoza make a fourth atterrfpt to put to sea with a cargo of food for blockaded France. The French vessel turned back for the third time in as many days when the British auxiliary cruiser Asturias spotted her Tuesday night before she left Uruguayan territorial waters. Uruguayan officials, who had been seeking to determine whether wheth-er the Asturias violated this country's coun-try's territorial waters in turning back the Mendoza, were confronted confront-ed with a new problem when a British navy seaplane made a forced landing in Maldonado bay, near Punta Del Este. The fliers would not tell the name of their ship. |
