Officials of Coon Chicken Inn telephoned tele-phoned police shortly after Jack Gordon, Gor-don, manager of the Modern hotel at 143 1-1 East Second South street had reported that a man who had attempted at-tempted to cash a stolen traveler'! check had fled from the hotel. The check, Mr. Gordon reported, wat for 150, wat Indorsed by H. C. Miller and was drawn upon the Farmers and Stockgrowers Stste bank at Lyman. Long, who police aald was the man who tried to cash the check, snatched the paper away from Gordon and the latter retained only a portion of the check bearing the name of Miller. With Long and Smith at Coon Chicken inn was a woman who gave her name at Joy Lee, and who told police the was a chance acquaintance of the two. She is being held also. Police reported they found In Long's wallet two traveler's checks for I1O0 each, three for 150 and one for 120. All were drawn on the Lyman Ly-man bank, they said. Barschnagel has a record of serving serv-ing eighteen months In Sing Sing on a bigamy charge, officers reported. |
