It now appears fairly certain that tha most pessimistic pessimis-tic of prophets on what would be accomplished ac-complished in tha closing session may now be put down ss opUmista. There are many political observers who from the day tha short session began last December have been skeptical skep-tical as to whether anything muoh would be dona. But It Is doubtful if even the moat akepUcal foresaw conditions con-ditions as they prevail on Capitol hill at present, with the end now only a matter of days away. The one big job of the short sessions of congress, for example, is to approve ap-prove the big sppropriatlon bills necessary for tha conduct of the government. gov-ernment. Yet in the session now fast drawing to a close this duty paled somewhat in comparison to the other stsg gering problems before congress. With leas thsn three weeks to go. even these all-important appropriation appropria-tion bills hsva hardly mora than begun be-gun their tortuous course. All of which means that other Important Im-portant measures probably will suffer and may be caught in the jam and crushed to death. . Among them may be mentioned the beer bill. Tha resolution looking toward the repeal of tha eighteenth amendment may also be smothered. The term relief bill passed by the house, containing the domestic allotment allot-ment plan, may meet the same fata.
