Show TRYING TO HEAD OFF I MAYOR'S INDICTMENT. SEATTLE, April 10. Arguments In the demurrer to the indictment returned by the; grand Jury against Mayor T. J. Humes.1 charging hln with wilful neglect to perform a public duty enjoined upon htm bv law. were heard by Judge Bell of the Superior court yesterday and, on conclusion, were taken under advisement by the court until Monday. Mayor Humes demurs on eight counts, alleging that the State has no law covering cover-ing his responsibility In the matter; that the facts charred do not constitute a crime, and further, that proof was not shown in the Indictment that he had reasonable rea-sonable cause to believe the laws of the Suite were being- violated. He was represented by seven eminent counsel, and the State by a deputy prosecuting prose-cuting attorney. ' |
