Show TRYING FOR SETTLEMENT Gompers Is in New Yerk Looking Into Trouble of Carpenters. NEW YORK, April 10. The struggle between warring factions of carpenters was resumed today, the fourth day of the strike. Renewed efforts on the part of the Amalgamated union to Install its members in the places left vacant by the striking members of the Brotherhood Brother-hood were encouraged by the announcement an-nouncement that a second firm of contractors con-tractors had consented to employ them instead of Brotherhood men. The Amalgamated men are coming in from the outlying districts and are being put to work In the big office buildings In process of erection. President Gompers and Vice-President Duncan of the Federation of Labor La-bor arrived here today. Mr. Gompers said: "We are going to see if we cannot settle the difficulties. I have good hopes that we may do so at once." William Fyfe, business agent of the Amalgamated, said he did not think Mr. Gompers would be successful. I |
