There was some correspondence and the young minister dropped the merchant-deacon a card telling him that he would come down and give the church a aample sermon. ser-mon. While the merchant was engaged in whittling a piece of white pine the young minister dropped in. valise in hand. The merchant slsed him up as a "drummer," and told him to make himself him-self at home. "Did you. get my card?" asked the minister. "I don't remember." answered the deacon. "What house are you traveling travel-ing for?" "I am traveling for the house of the Lord," said the minister, seeing that the deacon did not recognise him as the "new minister." "Well, I think you ought to sen a large bill of goods In this locality; but don't take anything except cash." |
