Show CREDITORS SEEK TO RECOVER TITHING A committee representing the depositors deposi-tors of the defunct Schettler bank called on Bishop William B. Preston Wednesday Wednes-day for the purpose of finding out the amount of money which1 the former banker had paid to the church in tithing tith-ing during the last ten or twelve years, and to see if anything could be done to have the church return the money to the depositors. Bishop Preston Informed In-formed the committee that it would take some time for him to go over the books, but he assured them that the work would be taken up at once and an answer given as soon as possible. Mrs. Mary Zeler swore to a complaint before the County Attorney Wednesday charging B. H. Schettler with receiving money for deposit after he knew his bank to be insolvent. The warrant was placed In the hands of Deputy Sheriff Booth, who arrested the former banker later in the day. Schettler was at once taken before Justice Dana T. Smith, who fixed the amount of ball at $5000. H. G. Whitney and Neils Rasmussen appeared later and went on the bond. In her complaint Mrs. Zeier alleges that she deposited $135 with Schettler on October Oc-tober 1. 1904, Just eighteen days before the doors were closed. |
