Show ALASKAN BOUNDARY TREATY, IS RATIFIED. Opposition to Settlement Makes No Fight Against It. WASHINGTON, Feb. 12.-In an executive execu-tive session which lasted only an hour and a half yesterday the Senate, in addition addi-tion to confirming a -large number of nominations, ratified the Alaskan boundary boun-dary treaty and came near taking similar action on the commercial treaty with Greece, which was reported by Senator Cullom today from the Committee on Foreign For-eign Relations.' The Greek treaty was read through by the clerk, and then Senator Cullon asked that the resolution of ratification be acted on, but Senator Hoar of Massachusetts objected. There was no delay in securing action on the Alaskan treaty, and very little opposition op-position to it was manifested. Senator Teller said that he considered the Alaskan boundary so well determined as to make it not a matter of dispute. Therefore, while he would not delay it, he would not vote for it. Senator Mason made similar remarks, adding that he considered the procedure proposed by the treaty non-American. non-American. The ayes and noes were not called, but there were several voices heard in the negative when an Informal expression was called for. The ayes, however, were so aiuch more numerous, that th decision of the chair to the effect that ratification had prevailed was not challenged. |
