Among the Men Training for Military Duty. i The event of greatest Importance In guard circles for some time past .was the Inspection by Capt. Sturglss under army orders last week. ; With the exception of the First Regiment Regi-ment band the ilocaL organizations have now all , been Inspected. The artillery , ;was given attention last Monday, company com-pany H, Tuesday; troop A, Wednesday, and the signal and hospital corps Thursday. The band will be inspected at the armory Sunday morning, i The equipment was fonnd to be In first-class condition in every case, but in drill one or two organizations fell somewhat, which Is probably due to the fact that there was too much, "dead timber" in the ranks, that is men who have not attended drill for some time. The attendance every night was at the top notch. r The Inspection Is to determine the condition of the equipment issued to the Guard by the Government and if found In proper form the Guard will toe outfitted as are the regulars, i The First Regiment band gives what promises to be a successful excursion to Park City tomorrow. The fare will be $1.50 for a round-trip ticket and a number of Salt Lakers will take advantage ad-vantage of the low rate. The ride through Parley's canyon, is a pleasant one this time of the year. ! At night a concert will be given at the Park City opera-house. - e Each officer of the Guard Is in receipt of a sample copy of the "Army and Navy Register." The Register is soliciting solicit-ing subscriptions from the Guard officers offi-cers and states that hereafter that excellent ex-cellent paper will contain all important news of the National Guard on account f"of the future close affiliation of the regulars and Guard of' the different States." . i ' Col.
