Davis, a well-known resident of Salt Lake, was found dead In a room at the American house at S .o'clock this morning. ' . . '' . , . The day clerk entered the room occupied occu-pied by Davis shortly before It m. The man was lying on his bed apparently asleep.- An hour later he went to awake the man and found that he was dead.. The police station was at once notified. Judge Diehl and Capt. Burbidge went at once to the rooming-house and after examining the body ordered that it be taken ta-ken to O'Donnell undertaking parlors. After the body had been taken to the undertaking un-dertaking parlors Assistant City Physician Physi-cian Paul was summoned and examined the body. Dr. Paul gave it aa his opinion that the -man died from the effects of alcoholism. An Inquest will be held tomorrow. to-morrow. . Davis, who was about 40 years of age, had spent the last thirty years of his life In and around Salt Lake. For a number of years he was a trusted employee of the Pacific Express company. For the last few years he had spent the most of his time In Salt Lake with occasional trips to Idaho In connection with mining claims that he owned In that State. During the. . last two or three years he had met with financial reverses, which. It is claimed, caused him to take to drinking. Mr. Davis leaves a mother and a number num-ber of sisters and brothers.
