Show SHIP WRECKED BY EXPLOSION Naphtha Explodes in Hold of Schooner Hampton While Dredging. . a- m MILLVALE, N. J-, May 30.-Whlle the sloopa of the oyster fleet were dredging above Maurice river cove, in Delaware bay yesterday, a? terrific explosion wrecked the schooner Hampton. A large portion of the boat was destroyed. The deck, with the captain, David Robblna. and a crew of Ave men. was thrown into the water soms distance away, and debris was scattered over the bay, for hundreds of feet. 9 Strangely enough. Capt. Robblns and his crew were not seriously Injured, receiving only a few cuts and bruises. The schooner was equipped with gasoline gaso-line machine dredges, and several tanks of naphtha, which were stored In the bold, had exploded. In a few minutes the schooner plunged to the bottom of. the bav. The six men clung to the fragments of the deck, and because of the heavy sea were with difficulty picked up by a State patrol steamer. . - - - |
