' The franchise question is expected to be the absorbing topic at the committee meetings of the City Council this evening. even-ing. At tonight's meeting It Is understood that Samuel Newhouse will be present to talk In favor of the proposition made by him to the Council. The center of Interest In-terest will be the Municipal Uwi and Special Water Commltees. Before them, it Is believed the Utah Light & Railway company will plead the cause of a secret ordinance. The monopoly la said to be ready at any time to have the franchise brought before the Council. According to reports, a long fight will be made by the trust for the omission of a forfeiture clause. This will bo as strenuously fought by many of the Councllmen as it will be waged by the monopoly. - There is a possibility that the franchise question may be postponed this evening as a number of the Councllmen will take advantage of the Invitation to.
