Show CoimtryJGives New Lease OirLife By Oroi!Q IrUDMB I .ORB ttprrlsbt X. Y. W)r14. laaat Sunday 1 wnt to th country for th flrat tim this oo. I walked for nearly two mil through th wood. Everywhere wer budding things, waited for th aun a.ray and th spring rains to nourish them Into greater life. And again I marvelled at th Wonder of Wonders th Mother Earth that gives and waits for no man! And somehow or other all th winter's storms, with th snow and slt and ail the troubles and trials that every on endured, aeemed to fad and dl In the fat of theae hopeful elans ol I lenowed life unfailing, ever present. Ther they spread befor m acree nnd Atiren. apotted Vith .young greens. -lean, ana sweet, ana iuii ui -'--Ing. And then 1 thought of the very tev acres of the crowded city where human beings are huddled- together. 1 thought of the children that have never seen cows and sheep and there are many of them. 1 thought of tired mothers, fearful to go to distant dis-tant parts because they think they are chained down to the duties that confront con-front them. And then I realised there are hun-drede, hun-drede, yes ' thousands of people who haven't the flrat conception of what the country means what it can give to them, If they wouio only seek It. And I cen t help wishing thst 1 could each out to each and every one of those who have sorrows snd sufferings snd who see nothing bright ahead of them, berauoe of their little, narrow environment wishing that X could bring them out here and show them w bat hope really means. And I would like to tell them what the country means tor me. When X get "blue" and weary of the world, and things seem all huddled in a corner. I go out and look at thes growing thing right out of Mother Earth, and I cannot help realls. despite my misgivings, mis-givings, that that great Creator, that Higher Power, does exist, regard-leaa regard-leaa of you and me and of what w think. And that though theae growing thing were seemingly dead all winter f'et here they are. coming right through n new dress, new hope, new existence, snd they will fulfill their destiny if nature has her way. And somehow there always comes the solace that thla being so, the same Creator who sees to it that the dead shrub is revived and blooms sgaln will see to It that the same rebirth will come to pass of ths human being wnoi has lost hold snd finds himself In the deths of despair. And again I reason that the great: trouble with the mass of our people I In the aeethinr city is the fact that they lose ao much In not getting Into a communion - with the marvellous manifestations forever present In the country to breaths hope, and dispel the blue devils. You would be surprised If you tried really to get this communion, what It would do for you. You look up Into the sky It is such a large sky and so beautiful It la always beautiful. And somehow the bigness of the universe uni-verse snd the possibilities for you are bound to creep In aa you look around and beyond to the horlxon. And then, everywhere on all stdea the tiny Insects that live and move and have their being regardless of what you want or whst you do sYid the trees, the song of the brook Indeed In-deed they apeak "a various language" and ever answer the cry of him who would hear. It is good beyond messure. gentle reader, for man, woman or child to get acquainted with Mother Barth out In the open. And the spring Is here, and this Is the time to begin that acquaintanceship. ac-quaintanceship. There la no place like the large city for easy transportation, from the crowded corners to th wld open spaces. And the pathetic thing Is that some-people some-people must learn to love the country. It should begin with the children, snd If every part knew what happiness he could store up for hts children by teaching them the love of the woods . I ... hat wf A 1 1 1 ft .. that hi. 'children get the country even as he Idoes his food and clothing. Vsry often It means much mora than that. It does to me! |
