At a mass meeting held In tho Labor Temple, the men voted to accept compromise proposition which gives them a slight decrease In wages from 1 to t cents an hour In tho various departments. "I am highly gratified that the matter has been settled satisfactorily," satisfactor-ily," aald H. F. Dlcke. manager of the company. The settlement Is satisfactory sat-isfactory to both sides." Tho vote In fovor of accepting the company'a compromise proposition was 0 per cent in the affirmative at the mass meeting. The new scale becomes effective May 1, at which time the nw contract between the men and tho company will go Into effect Some time ago tho company ub-mltted ub-mltted a new achedule of wages which It proposed to put Into effect. It repreaented a decrease from a minimum mini-mum of 1 cent an hour to a maximum maxi-mum of 7 centa an hour, and averaged about 10 per cent. POINT CLEARED UP. Tho men asked for a return of tho 120 wage scale. They declared that the laat cut In wages waa made In accordance with tho declaration of tho company that certain Improvements Improve-ments must bo made to the atreets and tracks. These Improvements had been made, the union asserted, and It asked that the money bo diverted back to Ita original channel. The company called attention to the fact that no dividends had been paid for seven years and thst last year It failed to mako enda meet by over I160.040. The company claimed to be reducing wages In direct ratio to the changes In the cost of living.
