1 Poetess at 66 i Mrs Mrs' Rachel Barney Taft Achieves chieves AmbitIon Ambition Ambi- Ambi I tIon to Write Verse After Many Years For For 60 years rears or more Mrs Mrs- Rachel Barney Taft B street loved poetry po po- etry and learned to write it But the time to write was lacking As a girl girlIn girlin In a pioneer community she was Wa kept busy at household tasks Married at atan atan an early age the rearing of at a large family occupIed every moment But three years ago at the age of at 66 she determined to realize her ambItion To Today d a. a she has a volume a of verse ready for lor publication When Mrs Taft Tact makes up her mind to do a l thing she does it it said Mrs Claire Stewart BOyer Biyer head of the Civic Center cultural department to whom Mrs Taft TaIt came to learn the technique of verse She mew knew nothing of vc according to Mrs Boyer but had an ambition to leave lea a volume of verse to her family Mrs Taft claims no honor for her work but gives all the credit to her teacher The Civic Center classes are splendido did dido she remarked They have taught me much and supplIed me with precious recreation Mrs Tart Taft was born at Fourth South and Main streets in a house which stood opposite the site of the Newhouse New New- house hotel February 8 1865 When we wanted to go anywhere in those thos days we had to walk she said We didn't do much traveling Raising a family of nine children kept me occupied but now that they rc grown I can write poetry I L' L I i I t. t I.
