A GUEST XANTHIPPE AND SOCRATES Xanthippe married Socrates No doubt believing he would be beA beA beA A Wizard raising gard garden n I peas And Arid sassafras for or springtime tea No doubt she thought when they were we're were wed Hed He'd settle down to useful labor And keep a roof above bove her head And be a most obliging neighbor neighbor neigh neigh- bor We get no hint of how he wooed Or was he bold or much afraid Or with what ardor he pursued The favor of the lovely maid We only know in later life Xanthippe oft was moved to bat him And as his much neglected wife wiCe Threw various ugly missiles at him She found him difficult Im I'm sure And all my pity goes to her It must take patience to endure A gossiping philosopher For when the cupboard holds no meat Nor any bottled milk for drinking drinking drink drink- ing Who Vho wants a husband on the street Doing the worlds world's profoundest thinking Oh woman you can Beware Xanthippe's sorry fate A merchant or a working man manWill manWill Will make a comfortable mate But men like Socrates you'll find Forgetful are arc of cakes and ci cider ci- ci der He Ee had the worlds world's most brilliant mind But never was a good provider Copyright 1935 Edgar A.
