Show 'Do Yon Knotvr The performance of "The Private Secretary at the Theatre last night was eminently satisfactory. Those of us who have seen Gillette In Ihe title role naturally made comparisons compari-sons of his renlition with that of Leonard Grovcr.Jr. They were, ln our opinion, largely In favor of Mr. Graver. Ho gave us a representation represen-tation that showed him to be a finished comedian, and the laughter laugh-ter and applause of the aadlence proved their appreciation ot tils able ettort. "Cattermole" was almlr-a'.ly almlr-a'.ly performed by Leonard Grover pert. Wo do not tee how It could have been bettered. Mr. Spencer, as thelxmdon tailor tail-or who wanted to be a gentleman, was the nett favorite iu the play. Messrs. Wells, Young and White were fully up to the mark, and Edith and Ivy Ctawson with Kettle Snell performed thtlr parts with great credit. tttie Claridge made as good a Miss Ashfonl as we have seen anywhere and gave to the character all that the part Is capable of. . Tho whole performance was good and well worth seeing. It will be repeated tonight. Prof. Careless Is cordially velcomed at his old place as leder of tho orchestra and has ssttltd down to work with a) I hIold vlrnanJ njusjcal spirit. |
