Show Concreaalonal. Washington, Sept. 12. A number num-ber of minor bills were taken from the calendar and pateed by the Senate. Sen-ate. The conference report on the railroad rail-road land forfeiture bill was taken up. Morgan continued his argument argu-ment in (opposition. Owing to in disposition McPhsrson was excused from the conference committee on tbe Liritf bill, and Yoorhees was substituted., Murgan was followed by Saunders in behalf of the conference report, the main point of his contention being that lands actually patented to railroad companies could not be taken from Ui-m because they turned out to be mineral lands. Hearst took tu 1 opposite view, and insisted that mineral lands were specially reserved by the original grants. Saunders said that in tbo courts of Washington and California and Supreme Court of tbe United States tbu term "mineral lauds" liad been held to meau lauds commercially valued for mining purposes. Without concluding his argument, Saunders yielded for an executive session, and the Senate soon adjourned. |
