Mrs. Charlotte Gammell, in company com-pany with her daughter, Mr.s Josephine Jos-ephine Brinton, have spent the past three weeks visiting relatives and friends in Los Anegls, Calif. Miss Teressa Sumsion, daughter daugh-ter of Mr. and Mrs. Elvin Sumsion, Sum-sion, has spent the past twelve days with relatives and friends here. Stationed with the WAVES at Memphis, Tenn., she came home especially to attend the wedding of her sister Beverly, and Don Miller. Joseph Meyere, 23, fireman, first class, son of Mrs. E. Huff, Route One, Springville, has visited the British Crown Colony of Hong Kong, China, while serving aboard the destroyer USS Brush. . The 'Brush, part of the U. S. 7th Fleet in Asiatic waters, is touring the China coast, Formosa and Korea. During the war this destroyer played a major role in the final capitulation of Japanese forces. Over a year before the signing of the surrender she ventured as close as two miles from the entrance of Tokyo Bay harassing enemy convoys. con-voys. Surrender day, 1945, found the Brush again in the Tokyo Bay area, only this time part of the Victory Fleet. Mrs. Beulah Whiting left recently re-cently to visit Mr. and Mrs. Robert Rob-ert Springmeyer (Venice Whiting) and family in Waltham, Mass. Owen Sumsion, son of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Sumsion, son of Mr. and ceived his discharge from the army and has returned home to continue his studies at the Brigham Young University. He has been in the service during the past year, his last station being at Camp Morro Bay, Calif. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Anthon have gone ito Riverside, Calif., to visit with Mr. and Mrs. Ted Anthon. They plan to be gone about three weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Shepherd visited their daughter and husband, hus-band, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Adams Ad-ams (Naomi Shepherd) early this week at Tooele. They went. especially espec-ially to celebrate the birthdays of Naomi and another daughter, Joy, whose anniversaries come on January Jan-uary 15 and 16, respectively. ' Don C. Shepherd, S 1c, sends his thanks and appreciation to the Navy Mothers who remembered remember-ed the Navy boys wtih a Christmas Christ-mas greeting card. Don, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Shepherd of this city, is now stationed at the U. S. sub-base in Pearl Harbor, Har-bor, T. H. Mr. and Mrs. Edward Clyde have returned from an enjoyable trip through the southern states. They spent two days with Mrs. Clyde's brother, Wilford Mendenhall Menden-hall and family at Phoenix, Ariz., and a short time also with her sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. M. G. Anderson, (Florence Mendenhall) Men-denhall) at Las Oruces, N. M. They visited places of interest at Juarez, Juar-ez, N. M., and the Carlsbad Caverns Cav-erns at Carlsbad, N. M., San Antonio, An-tonio, Texas and New Orleans, La. They visited also places of interest inter-est in Mississippi including the beautiful colonial homes at Natchez. Nat-chez. Crossing the Mississippi river, they returned home by way of Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas and Albuquerque, N. M. Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Ward and family of Jackson Hole, Wyo., are visiting a few days at the home of Mrs. Ed Williams, and with Mr. and Mrs. Alton Packard. Vernon J. Tipton of Springville, was one' of sixteen new members this year to be initiated into Phi chapter of Beta Beta Beta, the national biological fraternity at Brigham Young University. Mr. Tipton is the son of Mrs. Lula Witney. He is a graduate of the Springville high school where he took an active part in all student-body student-body activities. A veteran of World War H, he served for 48 months in the Army Air Corps, in the European Theater of Operations. Oper-ations.
