FUNDS SET UP - A FOR EIGHT HEALTH NURSES Funds have been set up in Utah county for a full complement of eight public health nurses during 1947, three more than the county had during the past year, but full utilization of the funds will depend de-pend on whether sufficient nurses can be obtained, according to Dr. Seth E. Smoot, state health officer for district four. Continuing a program in effect for several years, an agreement has been reached by the state with Utah county and the county's coun-ty's three school districts whereby where-by the county will pay one-fourth the cost of the nurses for the year, with the state paying half and the school districts the remaining re-maining fourth. Total cost of eight nurses for 1947 is estimated at $21,240. Handicapped by the nationwide I nurse shortage, Utah county only j had five public health nurses dur-, dur-, ing 1946 and only four after Mil-I Mil-I dred Allred of Orem became a sup-I sup-I ervisor to replace Anne Hatch, transferred. Public health nurses, who serve as school nurses under the state setup, were distributed as follows last year: Mrs. Mabel Jones and Miss Allred, Alpine district; Mrs. 1 ; Leona Curtis, Nebo district and t Mrs. Carol Raile and Mrs. Gladys Jones, Provo. Dr. Smoot said the services of Mrs. Lillian Thompson, Provo, have been secured and she will start soon in the Provo district Mrs. Lucille Page, now away taking tak-ing special schooling, also plans to return in the spring, he said. Efforts will be made to secure enough more nurses to. bring the county complement to eight. Although the 1947 estimate for the eight nurses is $21,240, the county and school districts will pay only on a proportionate basis of actual nurses employed if the full eight cannot be secured, Dr. Smoot said. |
