Show Fence Posts Last Longer If Soaked in Chemical Six hours soaking in a chemical solution will make fence posts last much longer than usual, according ac-cording to E. G. Maxwell, Nebraska Ne-braska agricultural extension forester. for-ester. He recommends using a solution solu-tion of one pound of zinc chloride, chromated zinc chloride or copper sulphate to half a gallon of water. Although chromated zinc chloride costs about twice as much as either of the others, it is usually j considered the best because it protects wood longer and does notj corrode wire staples. The method of treatment consists con-sists of standing the fresh-cut saplings in a tub full of the solution solu-tion for about six hours. Care, should be used in handling thei chemicals becausa they are POi-J sonoua. |
