Show UNION FUNDS ' , 1 ARE ON INCREASE The National Industrial Conference Confer-ence Board has disclosed that while health and welfare coverage of workers still is small, an increasing increas-ing number of employer-supported welfare funds are being instituted. These funds are financed by out-ight out-ight levy on production or on employer em-ployer contributions based on payrolls pay-rolls and are administered by the union, the employer or by a combination com-bination of the two. Some plans, the survey showed, are on an industry in-dustry wide basis while others are negotiated between a local union organization and the local industry. indus-try. The survey stated that while no figures are available on the exact number of union members cov-red cov-red by welfare funds, "one union source estimates that between one million and two million workers are covered by employer-paid insurance in-surance and benefit plans, many of them Union administered." |
