Show City Prepares For Black Hawk Committees Outline Major Events Programs, Parade, Rodeo, Carnival Dances And Other Entertainment Being Prepared For 4-Day State Encampment Here Aug. 6-10 The key to this city will Be literally turned over to the Black Hawk organization of the state for the big annual Utah Encampment of Black Hawk Indian War Veterans and Pioneers to be held in Springville Spring-ville from Tuesday, August 6, through Saturday, Aug. 10. A large delegation from every Black Hawk organization in the state is expected to participate. The City Park will be turned over to the campers for erection of a tent city and they, with their families from all over the state, .will be invited to remain at the camp site through the entire week. City officials will install lighting light-ing and sanitary facilities at the park for the convenience of the visitors as well as for townspeople who desire to join in the Black Hawk camp. At a meeting Tuesday evening of committee chairmen in charge of various phases of entertainment, entertain-ment, a general program of events to be carried out during the encampment, en-campment, was outlined. Every day, throughout the week, programs will be conducted at the City Park by the various city chapters. A big, parade is planned as a major entertainment. It is to be divided into three sections, the first to depict the pioneer trek to Utah, the second to include commercial com-mercial floats and the thii-d section sec-tion to present entries of local civic and business houses. Possibly the biggest entertain- ' ment during the encampment will be the rodeo scheduled for presentation pre-sentation at the City Ball Park each evening beginning Wednesday Wednes-day through Saturday. Arrangements Arrange-ments are being made with R. A. Richter of Bozeman, Mont., America's Amer-ica's foremost rodeo contractor, for the biggest rodeo entertainment entertain-ment ever seen in Springville. An added attraction will be Monte Young's Carnival which will be here during the big state event. It is also planned to have dances danc-es featuring numbers for the older old-er people as well as the young, and a street dance as well as boxing box-ing and wrestling events are included in-cluded in the prospective entertainment enter-tainment program. Plans are going forward, it was announced at the committee meeting, meet-ing, for the Black Hawk queen contest, in which a queen candidate candi-date from each of the cities participating par-ticipating in the encampment will appear at each rodeo, and the winning queen will be selected the final night. Alma Fullmer of this city, commander com-mander of the state Black Hawk organization, and A. O. Thorn, captain of the' Springville-Maple-ton committee, are general chairmen chair-men for the state encampment and are working in cooperation with a large corps of other committeemen com-mitteemen to make the encampment encamp-ment the largest ever held. It will be the first time Springville has been host to the Black Hawk since 1934, and it is the first time the Black Hawk has been held since 1941. Willis Weight is acting program chairman, with Mrs. Mary Weight to be in charge of community singing. John H. Whiting is in charge of seating facilities at the park; Val Curtis, grounds and camping; camp-ing; A. O. Thorn, housing of guests. Other committee workers include in-clude Ralph Harmer and A. L. Thorpe, parade; Bryce Thorn, R. L. Althouse, Mays Anderson, queen contest; Elmer Bird, Ernest Boyer, Kay Johnson, concessions and carnival; Tom Averett and A. H. Mortensen, rodeo; Al Riding. Rid-ing. Wallace Patrick, dances, A. O. Thorn, R. L. Althouse and Tom Judd, programs, publications and publicity.
